Made in Punjab, Inorbit Mall, Malad West

Hello foodies!

Hope you have a great weekend! Today's review will be on a food fest that we recently enjoyed at Made in Punjab (MIP). MIP is another feather in the cap of Mr. Zorawar Kalra who is a renowned restaurateur. MIP is the kind of restaurant that promises you North Indian food with a twist.

With a menu that is super catchy, we had great expectations from this place as well. But did MIP live up to our expectations? Let's find out!

Drinks (Mocktails) :

1. Kala Khatta Chuski: As you enter MIP, you are greeted with a couple of complimentary food/drink items. Since we both are teetotalers, they got us the unspiked version of Kala Khatta Chuski. This drink is served in a classic glass vessel that is usually used to pour chai at tapris. The rim of the glass was lined with chat masala. So every time you take a sip, there is this amazing burst of flavours in your mouth. This drink was just as the name says, it was sweet and tangy, both all the same.

2. Minty Apple: This looked just as refreshing  as it tasted. It had the perfect balance of mint and apple at the same time. There are mint and apple pieces inside the drink so it stayed just as flavorful in the end. We absolutely loved this mocktail and we would highly recommend this drink!

3. Khatta Meetha: This drink too, is very refreshing but a bit on the sweeter side. There are multiple flavours in the drink. As you sip, you instantly recognize the orange and the mango flavours. These two complimented each other so well! Then there's a blast of lime and passion fruit puree. These drinks look super good as well!

4. Guava Mary: Now this drink was again super awesome! There's a punch of sourness as you sip this mocktail. The glass is lined with salt and chilli powder that goes hand in hand with the guava based drink. After Pincuk, I think MIP is one place with bomb.com mocktails!

5. Hadwana Shikanjvi: This is a deep red coloured drink that looks super intimidating! But it yet again, surprised us with how good it tasted! The watermelon is a dominating flavour here along with bursts of lime and chat masala here and there.  Full marks to this drink in terms of taste and presentation!

Food-

Starters:

1. Tokri Chaat: This chaat comes served in fried, edible tokri with fillings of crispy colocasia. The cute little basket also contains different chutneys ranging from sweet, tangy and spicy. The presentation was really good as you can see in the pictures. It tasted even better!

2. Karara Bhatti Paneer: This starter made it's entry in a very novel way. If you want to see how, then we have posted a Boomerang video on Instagram, so do check it out [self promotion alert! 😜]. The paneer was delicious, soft and yummy. It wasn't as karara or crispy as the name says.

3. Platter which had these starters:

Saddi Kurkuri: This was a really crispy starter which had cheese and vegetables as fillings. It came with a chilli jaggery dip which was sweet and spicy at the same time. This starter was a bit oily since it was deep fried but delectable nonetheless!

Left: Badam brocoli; Middle: Saddi Kurkuri; Right: Subz Galouti

Subz Galouti: This was served with a tiny paratha. This was the smoothest kabab we’d ever eaten. It melted in our mouth like toffee! But this one did not quite hit the ‘Lucknowi galouti’ taste. Maybe because it was a vegetarian starter!

Gallan Di Galouti: This one, we loved it! It was smooth and full of flavor. This was also much better than the vegetarian version of galouti kabab.

Other starters in the platter were-
Bhatti Murg, Burnt Lehsoni Tikka, Badam Brocolli, Legacy Tandoori Champ and Sarson Olive Macchi.

Main Course:

1.     Maa ki Daal: This one was a very thick, creamy and delicious daal. It had the sweetness from the ghee and it instantly reminded us of the daal that we had at a restaurant owned by a Sardar ji in Ahemadabad. It was a dish that transported us to our training days! Food can be really nostalgic sometimes!
Top Row [Left to Right]: 1. Butter Chicken 2. Mutton Curry
Bottom Row [Left to Right]: 1. Maa ki Daal 2. Lesuni Chenna Palak 3. Paneer Lababdar

2.     Paneer Lababdar: Guys, if you read this and are planning to visit MIP, then this is the dish that you HAVE TO order! It was the best paneer dish we ever had! It was a bit sweet, but sooo tasty! If you like cheese then this one is perfect for your liking. It was so creamy and delicious!

3.     Lesuni Chenna Palak: We were surprised to see a palak dish in our food tasting. Usually leafy vegetables aren’t something that you order at a restaurant right? But this one was good! They had little white chenna balls in the dish that looked really nice in contrast to the green palak.

4.     [B.C.] Butter Chicken: A Punjabi restaurant that doesn’t serve Butter Chicken is practically impossible! So this one is a classic dish and also it is safe to order it when you are confused. The gravy was good, but we think we have had better butter chicken outside.

5.     [M.C.] Mutton Curry: This gravy too, was average. It wasn’t something that blew our minds like the drinks & some starters did. It wasn’t bad either. It is just that after having tasted so many good dishes, we thought this one wasn’t at par with the rest of the dishes.

6.     Gucchi Pulao: Gucchi is a wild mushroom that is grown in the Himalayas. It looks really one of a kind. It is also expensive according to the Economic Times. [Yes we did a little bit of research] The pulao was really different and unique. We loved it. The pulao was accompanied by mustard raita and these two went amazingly well.

Desserts:

1.     Nukkad Jalebi:  Ever since we saw a few images of MIP’s jalebis served in Margarita glass, we were hella excited! The jalebi was super crispy and scrumptious. The rabdi was a bit less on the sugar, which was awesome considering that the jalebis were already dunked in sugar syrup. The combination was excellent!

2.     Rasmalai: The presentation was good. This dish lacked a bit of sweetness it to it. But the cottage cheese was super soft and it soaked the syrup really well. The syrup had a rich taste to it. The dish would have gone from good to best had they added a little more sweetness to it.

Overall, we had a great time here at MIP and we truly felt that we were in a Punjabi household. The interiors are warm and cozy with brown and golden accents. The service was incredible. Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the dishes and what went inside those dishes. They gave us a quick introduction before serving a particular dish.

They also have a buffet meal which is priced at 550-650 rupees +tax depending on when you go. We think that the price point is really good considering the toothsome and luscious food we had here.
