Spices & Chillies
Hello Foodies!
This week we are going to be covering a place that was
earlier called as ‘King Chilly’. This place is now called as ‘Spices &
Chillies’. The place is easy to find as it is exactly opposite Filmalaya
Studios. It is almost equidistant from both Andheri and Jogeshwari Railway
Station. The restaurant is small and is able to seat about 20 people.
Spices & Chillies promise to serve its patrons a balance
of Chinese and Indian cuisine at affordable prices much like this restaurant. But the important question
is, did it impress us? Let’s find out!
You’ll sure be surprised to see the number of dishes we ate
[Ate. Not hogged!]
Starters:
1.
Shanghai
Chicken: This looked just as delicious as it tasted. Or maybe even
better. It was not at all spicy but it had good flavour. The chicken was soft
and juicy. Overall, a very safe dish to order when you are in doubt. Adding
little spicy note to the dish won’t hurt though!
2.
Lasan
Chicken: This dish looks kind of like Kung Pao chicken. But it is
almost black in colour. Not that appealing to the eyes we must say. But man!
The flavours are too bold in this starter! We loved the burst of flavours as we
ate this starter. There’s little to no hint of Lasun or garlic in it. It was
also just teensy bit too salty.
3.
Chicken
Murg Malai: No other starter can beat the richness a Malai Chicken
starter promises. This starter was delicious no doubt, but it could have done
better with a little more malai coating on the top. But it was fantastic no
doubt. It also came with green chutney that was equally delicious!
Main Course:
1.
Sunday
Chicken Curry with Butter Roti: This dish was the star dish of the
night! The gravy was smooth and rich. But not ‘Butter Chicken’ rich. It was
light on the tummy but yet the flavour was balanced. It was just the perfect
chicken curry. This teamed up with butter roti or even plain roti is just match
made in food heaven! Go try this one for sure!
Desserts:
1.
Golden
Fried Ice Cream: This dessert is nothing but fried bread with a small
dollop of ice cream inside. It isn’t too sweet which is good, but the quantity
is a bit less. The taste is no doubt, scrumptious!
2.
Apple
Toffee: They also had banana toffee but we preferred the apple one. It
is nothing but batter fried apple with sesame seeds and smooth, rich vanilla icecream. This however is perfect in quantity. The batter which covered the apples
was a tad bit sweet and it literally gave us a sugar high! But it was all good!
Yes, that’s it! For once we ate like normal people! Haha!
The service is pretty quick, you order the dish and it reaches your table in
about 5-10 minutes. But they aren’t that warm and welcoming. Anyway, we enjoyed
this little dinner.
