The Oriental Cuisine, Mulund West

Hello Foodies!

Today we are going to be reviewing the delicacies served at The Oriental Cuisine, Mulund (West) ! This place is just a 5 min walk from the Mulund station. This restaurant used to serve just vegetarian dishes until some time back. But now they serve non vegetarian food as well. As the name ā€˜Orientalā€™ suggests their menu has a wide variety of Asian dishes that you can choose from.

With food specialties chosen from different corners of Asia, you can now taste all these cuisines in one place! We have reviewed Pincuk, a similar place in Airoli for all you Navi Mumbai residents!

Letā€™s see what we hogged that day!

Soups:

1.     Lemon Coriander Chicken Soup: This soup had very mild flavors, but in a good way. You can taste the perfect balance of Lemon and Coriander. Both these ingredients add the zing to the chicken!

2.     Poh Tak Chicken soup: Poh Tak soup is a Thai dish. It has its inspiration from the Tom Yum soup which again is Thai! Having gone to Thailand recently I could taste the same flavors that I had in Bangkok. This soup has a distinct taste and it stands out from the most frequently ordered Chinese soups.

3.     Manchow Soup: Talk about the most frequently ordered soups! You canā€™t miss this one! Surprisingly this soup didnā€™t taste the way we expected. You can call it a toned down version of your regular Manchow. The flavor was less on ginger and garlic.

Starters:

1. Veg Tempura Roll:  The plating gives you the perfect feel of an Asian dish!  The veg tempura rolls wonā€™t be easy to adapt for the Indian tongues! The rolls themselves are not that flavourful. They are served with wasabi sauce, soya sauce, and mayonnaise and garlic pickle! Yet we would say all these dips donā€™t really make much difference. The wasabi as always hits your taste buds very hard, which is not very pleasing. The mayonnaise is a taste saver here.

2. Prawns Salt and Pepper: This one comes with aroma and the taste you canā€™t forget! Big, healthy delicious prawns!

3. Hunan Chicken: This Chino-American dish has tender pieces of chicken. The thick gravy fills your mouth with delicious flavors.

4. Paneer Satay: The definition of the paneer satay is more like Kebabs. But this one is more on the thicker side of the gravy. So a bit disappointed here. Also there a dominating flavor of peanuts as any satay be it chicken or veg, is incomplete without peanuts!

5.Calamansi Baby Potatoes: These little baby potatoes are a great play in your mouth. The sweet and sour tastes are so much fun and delectable! Mind to eat them as they are served! Hot is how you are going to like them!

Main Course:

1.     Mie Goreng Chicken: Beautifully plated and at the same time beautifully cooked! This dish is sure a Do-Not-Miss! The noodles are not dry and also not too much drenched in the gravy. There is this perfect texture that you sure will love. Served along with it is rice papad. The crunch of the papad and the smoothness of the noodles are a treat!

2.     Combination Rice: The name makes you imagine a rice dish that would be a blend of different colors. But no! This rice preparation is White in colour. The rice is served along with gravy. The rice itself is not much high on flavours but you sure need the gravy with it.

3.     Hong Kong Pot Rice :This is a Pot you will love a lot! Again a very scrumptious dish. The rice and the gravy come together in the pot. This soupy rice is a delight for your taste buds!

Desserts:

1.     Fried Honey Noodles with Ice Cream ā€“ Yummmmyyy! The fried noodles have a perfectly subtle taste of Honey! Put some noodles in your mouth, feel the crunch and take a bite of the smooth ice cream or vice versa! Anyhow you are going to feel that magic in your mouth!

2.     Muddy Choco Bowl: This is one kind of mud you would love to get dirty in! The ice cream comes on top of brownie. This is a delight for all the chocolate lovers out there!

Mocktails:

The drinks we tried were Choco Doco Shake, Lemon Iced Tea, Cold Coffee and Fresh lime. All of these were not up to the mark. The shake and the coffee both were not thick enough. Also the Choco Doco shake as the name suggests should have had the Chocolate dash in it .So drinks do not really live up to the names and the expectations. Anyway we feel that after having mocktails at Made in Punjab, other mocktails always seem a little bland as compared to them!

To summarize we would say that the menu is good. But the prices could have been a bit more in the budget. The service is quick, the place is cozy .You will get a neat description of the dish you are ordering. Experience the Asian cuisine here.
