Rainforest Resto-Bar, Kurla West
Hello
Foodies!
This weekend the 2FoodFreaks are reviewing Rainforest Resto-bar.
Rainforest is a jungle themed restaurant & bar situated in many places
across Mumbai & Navi Mumbai. It has dark interior with trees and a mini
river mimicking the look of a Amazonian Rainforests. The interiors are very
different than what we see in other restaurants.
Their
menu has a lot of dishes that belong to different cuisines such as North
Indian, Sea Food, Mughlai, Italian and Chinese. We had a tough time while deciding
what to order because of their extensive menu. But we narrowed down to a few
classics. Let’s see what we ordered!
Drinks: [Mocktails]
1.
Mango Delight: This mocktail comes in
a tall glass with an ombre of yellow and blue liquids. The presentation is
really cool. The name says it’s a mango based drink but it also has orange
juice in it. This mocktail was delicious and refreshing to drink.
2.
Blush on Ice: This was the best among
all the mocktails we had, as you can see from the pictures. The mocktail tasted
just as awesome as it looks. The different colours corresponded to different
flavours. Overall, the taste was really delicious!
3.
Rainforest Fantasy: We wanted to try this
mocktail since it said it has vanilla ice cream in it. But we would only taste
the vanilla essence in it. The drink was a deep red coloured one with no
visible ice cream. It was okay. It paled in comparison to the other mocktails
we had.
4.
Go Banana: We don’t know why they
have included this in the mocktail section when clearly this is a banana
milkshake. It is quite expensive for it being just plain milkshake. It is
served in a Margarita glass. Even this was an average drink.
Food:
Starters: As we already mentioned
that they have a huge menu even for starters, we decided to opt for a platter
since it covers a lot of different starters and the quantity would be less.
Mix non veg platter had the following items:
1.
Chicken Tangdi Kebab: Now the best thing
about this was this one was not covered in a typical red masala which normally other
restaurants serve. It was marinated in a different sauce. The taste was really
good. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The meat had a lot of flavours and
yet was juicy enough to eat.
2.
Mutton Seekh Kebab: This seekh kebab met our
expectations. It tasted delicious and along with the green chutney, it even
tasted better. The seekh kebab was soft and smooth.
3.
Tandori Prawns: The prawns were coated
with the red tandoori masala. It was properly grilled. The size of the prawns
was decent, not too big not too small. This did have a slight fishy after taste
to it. But overall, it was a good sea food starter!
4.
Chicken Tikka: As we know chicken tikkas
are boneless pieces of chicken coated with red tandoori masala and grilled in a
tandoor. This was the same and we enjoyed it.
5.
Chicken Kali Miri Tikka: These tikkas were long
pieces of chicken in a white sauce. It did not taste spicy but it was a wee bit
sweet. It had a hint of kali miri i.e. black pepper. But we assumed it to be a
spicier version of chicken tikka. It wasn’t bad, but we did not like it as much
as other starters.
6.
Chicken Pahadi Tikka: This was a green coloured
chicken starter which had a kind of herb taste to it. We loved this starter as
it was juicy, soft and succulent.
7.
Fish Tikka: The masala of prawn
tikka and fish tikka was exactly the same. The only difference was the fish that
they used. It was a decent starter as
well.
8.
Kurkure Cheese Kebab: This was not a part of a
non-veg platter. It was veg starter, but we requested them to include it in our
platter. These kebabs had very crispy coating and the filling was made of
potatoes and cheese. We could majorly taste the potatoes and hence it was
slightly disappointing. They should add more cheese to this kebab!
9.
Kung Pao Chicken: This was the best Kung
Pao Chicken we ever had. It had the right balance of flavours like sweet, spicy
and tangy. This dish was really awesome. We did try the Kung Pao chicken from
different restaurants but this one topped the list. One minor thing we noticed
in this dish was it was a wee bit salty.
Main Course:
1.
Murgh Musallam with
Garlic Butter Naan and Rumali Roti: The Murgh Musallam gravy was served with a small portion of
rice. The gravy had boneless pieces of chicken and decorated with boiled
eggs. The gravy was delicious but it lacked a bit of spiciness to it. Had it
been a bit more spicy, it would have been lip-smacking! The garlic butter naan
needs a bit of fine tuning. We could not taste the garlic in the naan. Rumali
roti wasn’t as soft either. They should work on their breads.
Desserts
1. Rocky Nutty Chocolate Bites with Almond
Praline Ice cream: This dessert was not that appealing to our eyes as you
can see. It looked very plain Jane. But it was a heavenly dessert! This dessert
is a chocolate lover’s dream come true! They had small chocolate disks with
nuts in it. This provided the crunch to this dessert. Overall, this was one
scrumptious dessert that we fell in love with!
2. Sizzling Brownie with Ice cream: This
dessert had the chance to be the best dessert, but the iron plate on which the
dessert was served was a bit too hot. The result being the brownie was a little
burnt. It did taste really moist and chocolaty. But we could clearly taste the
burnt brownie bits. That was a bit of a letdown.
We
wanted to taste the Italian Tiramisu but they didn't have it that day.
Overall,
we enjoyed the jungle themed restaurant a lot. We were initially worried about
how our pictures would turn out since the place is dark. But the manager
provided us with a torch. They also have many useful things on hand like Shawl,
Torch, Medical kits etc on hand in case if you need it. Just ask once and they’ll
provide you, which is a nice gesture that ensures that your guests are
comfortable.
