Red Olives, Powai
Happy Independence
Day! What are you guys up to today? We, the 2foodfreaks are working on this
review of a place that is known for its a-la-carte menu. We are talking about
Red Olives in Powai. They have recently ventured out and started their buffet,
so here we are, reviewing their buffet for all of you!
Red Olive is located
at such a place where there are a lot of residential buildings as well as
corporate buildings. So the crowd here is a mix from these two. They have
started their buffet service from August. They have a huge buffet menu which
consists of 4 courses i.e. Soups & Salads, Starters, Main Course and Desserts!
Soups & Salads:
1.
Veg Sweet Corn Soup/Chicken Sweet Corn Soup: There were 2 options for this soup one was
for vegetarian and other one was for non-vegetarian. Since the we, the
2foodfreaks are hard core non-vegetarians, we went for Chicken sweet corn soup.
We hardly ever order sweet corn soup. We belong to the majority of the people
that order Manchow soup! But Red Olives serves the perfect Chicken sweet corn
soup! We loved the taste of the soup!
Starters:
There were 6 starters,
3 of them were vegetarian starters and other 3 of them non-vegetarian ones.
Vegetarian Starters:
1.
Crispy Potato Schezwan: Basically this dish is like French fries but
in schezwan sauce. The potatoes were not that crispy, but yet they tasted delicious.
Had it been a little crispier, the taste would have been incredible!
2.
Aloo Tikki: A typical starter in almost every Vegetarian
buffet, but we were highly disappointed with this starter! It had no taste at
all! We recommended the Chef to replace these with some other starter like Hara
Bhara Kebab!
3.
Tandoori Achari Paneer: This was the best among the three vegetarian
starters we tasted. The paneer was properly cooked in the Tandoor. The paneer
did not feel bland at all, it had the achaari taste to it precisely as the name
says! We found this starter scrumptious. So a tip to vegetarian foodies going
here, don't miss this starter if available in the menu for that day. A must
order! This starter did remind us of the time we got food from Udta Punjab.
Non-vegetarian Starters:
1.
Salt and Pepper Chicken: This starter had small boneless pieces of
chicken. The chicken pieces were properly marinated with salt and pepper. The
combination of salt and pepper was unbelievably tasty! It sounds like a very
simple flavor, yet it was very delectable!
2.
Murgh Malai Kebab: This starter is eerily very similar to
Chicken Reshmi Malai Tikka. The taste is exactly the same but with a different
name. The meat was marinated in rich creamy goodness and the cooked in the
tandoor or grilled to perfection! It was yet another finger-licking starter!
3.
Fish in Lemon Sauce: This starter as the name suggests is tangy
and tart. This is the only sea food starter in the buffet as you can see. Now,
if you like sour flavor, then you will love this starter! We found this very
palatable! If you love sea food, you should definitely check out this place!
Main Course:
In main course, they
had different cuisines like Indian staple food, Continental and Oriental dishes.
They had many different types of items in main course. Here are some of the
things we tasted!
1.
Continental Cuisine: In continental cuisine, they had dishes like Vegetable
Moussaka, Pasta in Alfredo Sauce and Vegetables in Paprika Cream. Though their
continental dishes were only in veg, they were all mouth-watering! The
selection of these three dishes was fantastic! The amount of creaminess and
richness to each dish was totally perfect!
2.
Oriental Cuisine : The oriental cuisine consisted of dry
vegetable, mix vegetables as well as the noodles! They had Shanghai
Cauliflower, Vegetable in Oyster Sauce and Chow Mein Noodles. Now after being
so flattered by the Oriental cuisine, the bar of our expectations went up,
naturally. But we were amazed to find out that this cuisine too, won our heart!
3.
Non-vegetarian Section: The dishes they had in this section were
Chicken Cafreal, Sali Boti Mutton Jardalu and Thai Fish Curry. We tasted the
first two dishes but skipped the Thai fish curry. Chicken Cafreal was a light
green coloured gravy with boneless pieces of chicken. The gravy tasted amazing.
The dish did not look that appetizing but it certain was tasty! Sali Boti
Mutton Jardalu was a mutton gravy. This gravy also tasted very good. The mutton
pieces had less of the meat and more of the bones. But overall, it was again a
very delicious gravy.
4.
Indian & Indian Staples: The Indian section had Aloo Methi Dry,
Vegetable Korma and Paneer Kali Gol Mirch and Dal Bukhara, Dal Panchratan,
Steamed Rice and Veg Biryani in Indian Staples. But we were not able to taste
it since our stomach was totally full by now.
Desserts:
They had an array of
cute little pastries, cupcakes, fresh cut fruits, chocolate tarts and mousse to
choose from. They were all miniature versions of the desserts so that you can
indulge on them! They all were just too good!
Ice Creams: Finally at the end of such a humongous meal
they had 2 types of Ice creams. One was Vanilla Berry and another was Chocolate
Ice cream. The chocolate ice cream was a pure chocolate one. It was very good,
but vanilla berry was the best among both. It had a little coconut taste in it.
It tasted awesome.
Normally restaurants that
have buffet don't give much attention to their main course. But what we loved
about Red Olives was the fact that their main course was as good, if not better
than their Starters! As compared to vegetarian
starters, the non-vegetarian starters were way better. The Chef should
concentrate on his veg starters. But overall, we had a great meal here and
would recommend to all of you to go check this out.
The buffet menu keeps
changing, but for your reference we were here on a Saturday.
